Delivery & Returns


We ship all online orders to all New Zealand addresses using NZ Post Courier services.

Currently, we are unable to offer delivery on weekends or public holidays. 

Free Freight on orders over $200 unless deemed a large freight item

  • South Island delivery: $8
  • North Island delivery: $10
  • International delivery: $40 for small items that can fit in an A4 size bag, anything larger our Web team will be in contact with you with a freight cost
  • Large freight items (eg larger parcels, Nursery or Furniture): Will require specialised freight pricing - please contact our Web Team on 0800 433 433, or e-mail us at for a delivery quote prior to your purchase.
  • If the item/s are delayed you will be contacted via email to advise that the item/s have been placed on back order and the expected delivery time, you can either cancel the order or wait until the backordered item/s are back in stock. Payment is only taken when the goods are ready to be dispatched.

Delivery within New Zealand:

Delivery to any destination in New Zealand will be by courier. Please allow 3 - 5 business days for delivery of your goods, a dispatch email will be sent when the goods are dispatched and a Delivery email will be delivered once your item has been delivered.

Delivery to the Outer Islands (Waiheke, Chatham etc) may incur additional freight costs; we will contact you prior to goods being dispatched if there are additional costs.

There is no additional charge for Rural Deliveries. 

A tracking number will be provided via email when your order is collected so you can trace your orders transit to you.

Delivery Times:

Delivery is normally 3-5 Business days after you have placed your order. Rural deliveries may take an extra 1-2 days depending upon the location.

International Delivery:

For orders delivered outside of New Zealand please be advised that taxes and duties may apply when receiving goods. The value of items which may be stopped at customs differs for each country and it is the customers responsibility to be aware of this value and pay the taxes or duties which may apply. We will email you to advise you of the freight cost of your goods prior to processing.


H&J Smith is dedicated to providing quality products and services to our customers. We hope you will like what you have ordered, but if something isn’t right, please let us know. will only accept returns for the following scenarios:

  • Goods damaged or faulty prior to delivery.
  • Goods that vary from their description on this website.
  • Goods supplied incorrectly.
  • Goods that don't fit correctly

Our quality control teams do inspect all deliveries to H&J Smith to ensure the products you receive meet our exact quality standards. However, if you do receive a faulty or damaged product, please contact us to arrange a free return delivery and replacement or refund.

Returns Process:

Please return the product/s to us in the original condition within 10 days of receipt, including a copy of your receipt, and we will replace or refund your purchase using the original payment method. 

Please indicate a reason for your return, using the provided detail on your packing slip. Along with this please indicate your preferred remedy.

You may return or exchange a product bought on at any of our retail stores (see Stores for store locations). Again, please ensure the product is in original condition and you have your receipt as proof of purchase.
