Dunedin Rewards Scheme

The Rewards Point Scheme operated by Arthur Barnett and continued to be supported for customers who were members of the scheme at May 2015 is being wound up ahead of the H&J Smith Dunedin store closing at the end of January 2021.

The awarding of points for qualifying purchases ceased at the close of business on Wednesday 30 September 2020.  The value of accumulated points for active members has been converted to an H&J Smith Gift Card entitlement.

  • H&J Smith Gift Cards have been allocated in increments of $10.00 depending on the number of points accumulated
  • Your points will have to have been current i.e. Less than 12 months old to qualify. No allowance has been made for expired points.
  • If you have an unused e-coupon ($50.00 Reward) due this will be exchanged for a $50.00 Giftcard
  • Giftcards can be claimed from the H&J Smith Dunedin store office up until 24 December 2020.
  • If you are unsure whether you had any current points or may be entitled to a Giftcard you can email us on to find out.
  • H&J smith Giftcards are valid for 12 months and can be used online at or at any H&J Smith store in accordance with our Giftcard policies.

What was the Rewards Scheme?

  • The Rewards Scheme was a closed membership based Rewards Scheme carried over from Arthur Barnett days.

I have an H&J’s Charge card – how come I don’t get Rewards?

  • Only customers who were members of the scheme at the time H&J Smith took over the store earn rewards. No new members were added since May 2015.

Why was the scheme wound up and/or why now?

  • Unfortunately our store is closing at the end of January and we need to get the scheme wound up and reward members with Giftcards for accumulated balances before we go into our store clearance programme.

What has happen to my points?

  • We have converted accumulated points balances as at 30 September 2020 to an H&J Smith Giftcard entitlement which is now available to claim from the Dunedin store office up until 24 December 2020.

How do I find out if I have an entitlement to a Gift card?

I thought I had more points

  • You may have had points expire at 12 months if a Rewards E-Coupon had not been earned during that time. Alternatively, purchases which were purchased at a discount would not have earned any points.

I think I may have a Rewards E-Coupon due – how do I find out?

  • You can find out if you had an E-Coupon due and/or how many points you had by emailing us at or enquiring at the Dunedin store office

How have accumulated points been converted to an H&J Smith Giftcard entitlement?

  • At the close of business on 30 September 2020 we finalised member’s accumulated points and prepared a schedule of entitlements based on accumulated points and any current E-Coupons that had been earned but not used. Giftcards have been allocated in $10 increments which are now available to be claimed from the store office up until 24 December 2020.

Who do I speak to if I have further questions?

  • Enquires should be directed to the Dunedin Store Office who have all the information available to help with any enquiry. You can also email us on with your question(s).
